Picked up a couple of new modules yesterday—the Qu-Bit Data Bender and the Intellijel Quadrax. The trade itself was a nice reminder of how good the modular community is. There’s definitely a distinct personality type drawn to sitting in dark rooms, routing patch cables, and chasing squelchy, evolving noise.
Naturally, the plan to “just power them up and check the inputs” immediately spiralled into a jam. Zero manual reading involved—just pure plug-and-play exploration.
The Patch Setup
Qu-Bit Data Bender: Patched into an aux send, primarily chewing up and processing the main lead voice.
Intellijel Quadrax: Handling modulation duties across the system.
Halfway through the session, I realised I’d accidentally dialled in some cross-modulation between the bass voice and the lead voice. That’s still the best part of hardware modular—signals interact, bleed into each other, and force happy accidents that rarely happen inside a rigid DAW grid.
This track is “Juice”—a raw, one-take session named simply because I was sinking a Juice Wayne behind the desk while recording it.
Next up: sitting down with a cuppa and the manuals to actually figure out what these panels are supposed to do. I might then turn this jam into a track proper.
